Québec Energy Incentives

Québec currently has an abundance of solar energy and energy efficiency incentives available at the provincial, utility, and federal levels. The solar energy rebates on this page are denoted by a sun symbol () while energy and energy efficiency rebates are denoted by a bolt symbol ().

Provincial Energy Incentives

Revenue Québec RénoVert Tax Credit

The RénoVert Tax Credit is the only large solar incentive program offered in Québec, given to residents investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects including Solar Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal systems. The value of the tax credit is 20% of total system costs including installation up to a maximum credit of $10,000.

The RénoVert Tax Credit credit also be used towards a variety of other energy technologies and upgrades including:

  • Wind Power
  • ENERGY STAR Appliances (Water Heater, Ventilation, Air Conditioning)
  • Heating Systems (Geothermal, Wood, Oil, LP, LNG)
  • Green and/or White Roof
  • Air Sealing
  • + More

The tax credit is currently due to expire in March 2019, however, the program has been renewed in the past.

Government of Québec

The Government of Quebec offers several major incentive programs for Québec homeowners. The first major program is the Rénoclimat Program which offers rebates for a variety of energy efficiency upgrades including:

  • New Insulation
  • Air Sealing
  • ENERGY STAR Heat Pumps
  • Programmable Thermostats
  • Geothermal Systems
  • + More

The Rénoclimat Program has recently been extended to March 31, 2021.

The second incentive is the Novoclimate Homes Program which gives rebates ranging from $2,000 to $4,000 for the purchase of a new energy efficiency Novoclimate home. And the final incentive is the Éconologis Program which is intended to help low income earners get free energy saving advise, free installation of a programmable thermostat, and in some cases the installation of a new refrigerator.


Utility Energy Incentives

Gazifère

Gazifère currently has incentives available to their customers through the Gazifère Green Program. This includes an incentive (up to $350) for Air Exchangers with a Heat Recovery Ventilator, an incentive (up to $500) for a Condensing Tankless Water Heater, and a Supplement For Low Income Program to help fund energy efficiency upgrades.

Hydro Québec

Hydro Québec frequently has small promotions on energy efficiency upgrades for its customers. A full list of their incentives can be found by clicking here.

Énergir (the new Gaz Métro)

Énergir offers a series of Énergir Grants to their customers for a wide variety of energy efficiency upgrades including:

  • Appliance Replacements (Boilers, Furnaces, Water Heaters)
  • New Appliances (Boilers, Furnaces, Water Heaters, Fireplace, Combo System)
  • Energy Efficiency (Smart & Programmable Thermostats)

They also have a Supplement for Low-Income Households whereby you can receive up to double the normal grant amount.


Federal & Other Energy Incentives

Energyhub.org Solar Cash Incentive

The Solar Cash Incentive offered by energyhub.org can be claimed in addition to any rebate program offered on this page. The total rebate amount is relatively small ($152), but it’s super easy to claim.

Federal Tax Provision for Clean Energy Equipment

The Federal Tax Provision for Clean Energy Equipment is a tax policy offered through the federal government that allows Canadian businesses to fully expense their clean energy equipment purchases (solar included). This means a CCA rate of 100% and the abolishment of the first year rule.
